Circulation Policies
Faculty, staff and students may borrow library materials that circulate from any of the six campus libraries. Your NOVA Card ID is required for borrowing materials from the library and for all photocopying and printing.
Community users and consortium members have limited checkout privileges. Library cards are available at the Circulation Desk.
NOVA Library users may checkout books, periodicals, and audio-visuals from the library. Non-circulating material includes current issues of periodicals and reference material. These items cannot be checked out and are provided for library use only.
General Borrowing Policies:
- 3 Books (per subject matter): 3 weeks
- 5 Magazines: 1 week
- 3 Audiovisuals: 1 week
- 10 item limit.
Reserves:
Reserve items are located behind the Circulation Desk. These may be textbooks, supplementary readings, audiovisuals, or class notes made available for student use by faculty. Loan periods are established by the faculty and are generally library use only, though some reserve items may be available for overnight, 3 day or 7 day checkout. Headsets, and TI-83 calculators are also available. You must provide your NOVA Card ID in order to check out reserve items. All reserve items have a $2.00/day overdue fee. Reserve items cannot be renewed.Renewals:
The renewal period for books is three weeks and limited to one renewal. The renewal period for audiovisuals is one week and limited to one renewal. Renewals can be done in person, by phone or electronically; provided that the item is not overdue. To renew an item electronically, access the library catalog, click on My Account at the top of the page and log-in using your myNOVA username and password. If another patron has requested a book or other item, a hold is placed on the item and it cannot be renewed.
Overdue Fines:
Library users are responsible for paying all overdue fines accrued. Payment can be made by cash or check at the Circulation Desk.
Lost or Damaged Library Materials :
Library users are responsible for the replacement of lost or damaged library materials. The replacement fees are determined by library staff. These fees are in addition to any overdue fines already owed on the materials. Payment can be made by cash or check at the Circulation Desk. In some cases, you may be permitted to offer a new copy of a book or audiovisual to replace one that was lost or damaged while in your possession. Check with library staff to find out if this may be an option for your circumstances.
Holds on Students Records:
If you are delinquent in returning library materials, paying any overdue fees or replacing any lost or damaged library materials you will have a “hold” placed on your records (go to NOVAConnect at www.nvcc.edu/novaconnect for details). During this time, you will not be permitted to enroll, no academic transcripts will be issued, no recommendations will be written, and no other services will be provided.
