Massage Therapy Program

Launch Your Massage Therapy Career at NOVA

The wellness industry is growing rapidly in America and around the world. In fact, the spa industry grew 58 percent from 2007 to 2013 -- from $60 billion to $94 billion, with a 47 percent growth in locations, reaching 105,591 spas. 1

The median pay for massage therapists ranges from $35,000 to $75,000 per year. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for massage therapists is projected to grow 23 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average of 11 percent for other occupations. 2

Massage therapy is quickly becoming an integral part of medical treatment plans in healthcare facilities, doctors’ offices and sports medicine clinics. Massage therapists treat clients by using touch to manipulate the soft tissue muscles of the body. Therapists help relieve pain, rehabilitate injuries, reduce stress, increase relaxation and aid in the general wellness of clients.

Massage Therapy Career Studies Certificate Program

Our Massage Therapy program is designed to prepare students for the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEX) and certification by the Virginia State Board of Nursing, which is required to practice massage therapy in Virginia. Massage therapists with this license can treat clients in a variety of environments including hospitals and clinics, medical and chiropractic offices, sports and fitness facilities, corporate offices, beauty and skin care salons and spas.
