CompTIA A+ Computer Service Technician
The Computer Service Technician Program is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills essential for becoming a successful computer service technician, and is an excellent foundation program for other certifications. The training also prepares the student to take the Sylvan Prometric CompTIA A+ Certification Core and A+ OS exam. This two-course program covers hardware and software technologies and is not related to vendor-specific products. Candidates who complete this program will be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of configuring, installing, diagnosing, repairing, upgrading, and maintaining microcomputers and associated technologies.

Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) Training
The Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) certification is designed for networking professionals who manage and troubleshoot network systems based on Microsoft Windows platforms. The current classes prepare students to work with 2003 platforms, but are applicable to those professionals working with earlier systems. The classes to be offered, dependent upon enrollment include the following:

Oracle Professional Certificate
In the world of computer programming and development, there is more money to be made in the field of databases than in all the others combined. Oracle is a leader in the field of commercial database management systems, and professionals with Oracle skills are in high demand in private industry, state/federal government, and organizations within the Department of Defense. Through Continuing Education at the Woodbridge Campus of NVCC, you can prepare for the nationally recognized certification exam. The comprehensive curriculum emphasizes professional job skills. Individuals interested in a specific course, but not the entire certificate program are encouraged to participate.

Timeframe
The certificate program can be completed in one or two semesters of part-time attendance.
Prerequisites
A basic knowledge of Windows and Relational Database Design or six months of on-the-job experience working with databases.

Computer Technology Certificate
Today employers are looking for top-notched skills to support the
higher-level professional staff. Interpersonal and technology skills
are key to one’s success. In this certificate program participants
gain skills to improve customer service relations to meet the needs
of new and existing customers. This certificate prepares students
to work in an office environment to do the following: word processing,
electronic spreadsheet development, data management, reports, publishing
and graphic presentations. Students improve their grammar and proofreading
and editing skills.

Paralegal Studies Certificate
The Paralegal Studies Certificate Program is an inter-active program providing students the opportunity to take advantage of intense “skill oriented” training. The 2002-2003 Occupational Outlook Handbook stated, “Paralegals and legal assistants are projected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2010. The majority of job openings for paralegals in the future will be new jobs created by rapid employment growth, but additional job openings will arise as people leave the occupation.”
This program offers the basic courses for entry-level positions. However, individuals already in the field take this training to sharpen their skills also. An overview of basic law office and court procedures is provided as students learn the basic documents for domestic relations, real estate settlements, litigation and discovery, wills, debt collection and personal injury. Students become familiar with document and data retrieval of public records along with how to interpret information. Government employees, legal secretaries, insurance and banking personnel and people interested in a career change, as well as literary types are sure to benefit from the program. Individuals seeking employment in the following: law firms, title companies, law enforcement agencies, and local, state and federal government may take this program. Private and fraud investigators, corporate legal departments and others may use this certificate to market one-self to employers.

Web Designer Certificate
The Web Designer Certificate Program is designed for students entering into the Web page development arena. Whether designing Web pages for themselves, their business or non-profit organizations, this program provides the basic skills needed to accomplish the task. Through this program, students gain a good understanding of client-side processing concepts and techniques.
