| Welcome to
Northern Virginia Community College! Here are the steps to get you
started in taking courses: |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
- Apply
for Student Financial Aid
Financial Aid is available
for students who qualify. If you need additional financial
resources to assist you with your college expenses,
apply for financial aid online. Grants, scholarships,
on- and off-campus part-time employment opportunities,
and low-interest student loans can facilitate your
enrollment plans. Call the College Financial Aid Office
at 703-323-3199 if you have questions or need application
materials.

- Placement
Tests
Most new students should take
the English placement test. A photo ID is required,
such as your NVCC student ID, a driver's license, or
green card. Allow approximately two hours for the test.
Students whose first language is not English will normally
need to take an English proficiency test. If you have
completed a college-level English course at another
college, you may not have to take this test.
If you plan to take a math course, you will have to take a math test.
Other courses, such as chemistry and physics, require math and English
placement tests as well. You can check with the Counseling
Center in any campus for
more information about which tests you need.

- See
a Counselor
Counselors are available to
assist you with selecting a program of study and/or
choosing classes. If you have taken courses at another
college, a counselor will help you to see how these
courses may apply to a program at NVCC.
The college has a wide variety of courses and degree programs which
include programs that are designed to transfer and career programs.
These are described in the College Catalog as well as information about
college policies, college resources, course descriptions, etc. The
catalog can also be purchased at any NVCC campus bookstore.
To assist you in your transition to college, we have Student Development
courses, Counseling Center Workshops and services that are designed
to help you with your educational, career and life planning. We've
designed a one-credit course called STD 100 - Orientation. Student
Development courses are listed under the Student Development heading
in the current Schedule of Classes. Class meeting times for STD - Orientation
are scheduled in both the day and evening.
These courses and workshops are designed to help you in making career
and life planning decisions, refining study skills necessary for college
success, assisting you with college transfer issues, and building student
leadership skills.
Students with disabilities are encouraged to contact the Counselor
for Disabilities at any campus to determine what assistance and accommodations
are available for you.

- Select Classes & Make
a Schedule
If you did not receive a print Schedule
of Classes in the mail you may pick up a print copy at any NVCC
campus or use the Schedule of Classes on the web. The Schedule
of Classes is free. A current Schedule of Classes and a current
NVCC Catalog ($1.70) are needed to plan your schedule. You can
purchase the NVCC Catalog in any Campus Bookstores for $1.70.
Class times and locations for all five campuses, the Medical
Education Center, and ELI are listed in the Schedule of Classes,
which is available approximately two months before the beginning
of each semester. Computers are available for your use to check
for class availability at all campuses. You can search for class
availability online through NovaConnect from any computer with
an Internet connection and an Interest browser.
|
| |
- Register for Classes

|
| |
- Pay for Classes

registration unless you have chosen to use the FACTS Tuition
Payment Plan. You have several ways to pay. See Methods of Payment
for details.
Tuition is required for credit courses, developmental courses, ESL
courses, and courses being audited. Tuition rates are printed in the
Schedule of Classes. Tuition Deadlines are listed on the NVCC web site.
Payment of tuition entitles you to use the library, bookstore, student
lounge, and other facilities of the College except parking. There are
no special library fees.

| |
- Get Copy/Receipt
of Your Course Schedule
You can get a Web Payment Confirmation
and a copy of your registration schedule by using NovaConnect
Web. You can also check your classes and payment status but not

Business Office to get a print receipt if you registered through
NovaConnect Phone or registered in person. The Business Offices
