Foreign Language Placement
Test
There are three different University of Wisconsin College-Level Foreign Language Placement Tests: Spanish, German, and French. These test consist of two parts, Grammar and Reading Comprehension. If you have taken a Foreign Language class before and would like to try to test into a higher level of that language class, this is the test you will need to take. Depending on your score, you can test into 101, 102, 201 or 202. You are allowed only 60 minutes to complete this test. There are no sample placement test. Do not spend too much time on any one question. Work rapidly and carefully. Answer as many questions as you can. There is only one correct answer for each question. Your score will be the total number of correct answers. If you are unsure of an answer, you may want to make an educated guess. There is no penalty for guessing. If you finish before the allotted time has expired, go back and re-check your answers. There are a total of 55 questions for German, 77 for Spanish, and 64 for French, all multiple choice answers. Bring your results with you on the first day of class.
