ESL - English Placement
Test
The Accuplacer placement test is designed to measure your mastery of the English language. The goal is to ensure that you are enrolled in courses where you can comprehend what is being taught and are challenged to improve your English language skills significantly. There are three different types of multiple choice problems: Reading Skills (20 questions), Sentence Meaning (25 questions), and Language Usage (25 questions). Each test section has a maximum possible score of 120. Test scores are NOT percentages. Only the total of all three scores is use to place you. This test is not timed. This is a computerized test, and the test result are scored immediately. If you receive a total score of 300 or more a writing sample will be required, please allow enough time to complete this important part of the exam. Choose one topic from the two listed and write a constructive essay, not just a few sentences. This is timed for one hour. You may not use a dictionary or translator. Once you have completed the essay, this information will be sent to our English department, and they will evaluate your exam along with the writing sample and place you accordingly. You will be instructed to pick up your results from the Counseling Office at the Woodbridge Campus room 202 in three business days. If you have any questions, please see a Counselor. You will be allowed to take this test again in one year if you test into level 2 or higher, or in six months if you score into level 000. Your scores are good for 1 year.
