This eight-hour course is designed to provide an overview of the laws and regulations that govern contractor licensing and practice in Virginia and will help those taking Parts 1 and 2 of the contractor's exams. The class is now required as pre-licensing education. After April 1, this course will no longer be accepted by DPOR for remediation training for contractors.
Included is a study of those laws relating to the Board for Contractors as well as a review of the State Building Code and Underground Utilities, and the types of licenses and the qualifications for contractors.
Also presented will be the Standards of Practice, Prohibited Acts and How to Avoid Violations of the Regulations, as well as an overview of employment law, worker’s compensation, taxes, and business structures. This course is recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, Board for Contractors.
The required textbook is a resource for practicing in the profession of contracting. It contains regulations governing contracting and directions detailing where to obtain additional information about registering a company, taxes and other pertinent subjects. Students will also become familiar with other useful reference books and materials. The NASCLA book and Virginia Rules and Regulations are allowed in the open-book “A” and “B” examinations.
