Basic Wastewater Licensure Review

Blackboard Information
This online course is administered through Blackboard, an online instruction program that presents classroom activities and allows for interaction with your instructor.

Prior to the first day of class, go to My NOVA to look up your Username and Password. You will need to use this information to log in to Blackboard on the first day of class.

How the Class Will Work
Students will have a maximum of six months to complete the course and will be required to complete their timed quizzes and finals using Blackboard.

Interaction between the instructor and the class will take place in the discussion board section of the class Blackboard site. There is a “coffee break” section on the discussion board that is meant to serve as an opportunity for students to become better acquainted with each other. Comments made in this section should be appropriate and discussion should relate to the course. Please note, students should post comments about specific units under the discussions section designated for that particular unit. Problems, questions and the posting of the assignment URLs will be placed on the discussion board. The instructor will check the board regularly.

Course Structure/CEUs/Quizzes and Final Exam Schedule
The basic course requires the completion of 10 units and will allow students to earn 7 CEUs. The assignments for the week’s lesson are posted in the assignment section of the class. Quizzes and the finals are required to be completed according to the time tables listed below. They may only be opened once. Quizzes must be completed within 20 minutes and finals within 90 minutes.

Final at end of Unit 10

Textbooks
Students will need to purchase "Basic Wastewater Licensure Review Vol. I and II" (Fifth Edition) and "The Basic Wastewater Licensure Review Question Workbook" (Fifth Edition). These textbooks are sold as a set for $14.88 and may be purchased at the NOVA Alexandria Campus Bookstore. Course Description
NOVA is pleased to announce the availability of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality's Basic Wastewater Licensure Review training program as an online training course. The online version includes the same material as the classroom version, but gives you the opportunity to progress through the material at your own pace. The program includes a review of the knowledge and skills associated with competent operation of a Class III or Class IV wastewater treatment facility. Like the classroom version, the online course assumes you are qualified to sit for either the Virginia Class III or Class IV Wastewater License. Course material includes narrated versions of the presentations used in the classroom program, practice problems, exercises, quizzes and exams. Persons enrolling in the course will have six months to complete the program. This should allow individuals sufficient time to move through the program at their own pace.

The instructor for the online program will be Jack Vanderland, former director of the Department of Environmental Quality, Office of Operator Training.

At the completion of the basic course, students will be prepared to take the wastewater operator licensure exam for class III or IV wastewater license. Students may request NOVA to send their supervisor a copy of their transcript which verifies their course completion.

The Advanced Wastewater Licensure Review program is designed to review the knowledge and skills typically associated with competent operation of a Class I or Class II wastewater treatment facility. The program assumes the participant has the necessary experience to qualify for either the Virginia Class I or Class II wastewater license. The program contains all of the presentations and exercises used in the traditional classroom version of the program as well as additional practice problems and exams. Persons enrolling in the course will have six months to complete the program. This should allow individuals sufficient time to move through the program at their own pace.
