Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions about NOVA? Here are helpful responses to some of the most frequently asked questions about getting started at Northern Virginia Community College.

Q. Where should I begin?
A.   A visit to the counseling center at any NOVA campus is a good place to start. Trained counselors can advise you about NOVA's programs of study and provide special student orientations. You will also need to submit an application for admission to the College, as well as an application for Virginia in-state tuition. Both forms are included in this booklet.

Q. Can I qualify for financial aid?
A.  There is a Financial Aid Information Service on each NOVA campus where you can find financial aid applications, as well as information about loans, grants, work-study opportunities and scholarships. NOVA has financial aid options for almost everyone's needs.

Q. How do I find out which classes are offered?
A.  The NVCC Catalog, which lists course descriptions, is available for purchase at any NOVA campus bookstore. The Schedule of Classes is mailed to each home in Northern Virginia prior to the beginning of each registration period. You can also find these resources on NOVA's World Wide Web page at http://www.nvcc.edu.

Q. I'm interested in honors courses. Does NOVA have any?
A.  Yes! NOVA offers a number of courses which will satisfy your intellectual curiosity and provide challenging experiences. Check with any NOVA counselor about eligibility and requirements.

Q. How much will NOVA cost me?
A.  Tuition is charged per credit, so the total tuition depends on the number of credit hours for which you enroll. The Schedule of Classes lists current tuition rates, but NOVA's tuition is among the lowest in the area, making it extremely affordable!
