Schlesinger
Center Celebrates First Anniversary, Success
Alexandria,
VA (September 18, 2002) - The Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center,
on the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College, will celebrate
its first anniversary next month.
The Schlesinger Center's second season
is building upon the success of its first year, with performances that include
music, dance, theater and children's productions, as well as a lecture series.
The Center will continue its commitment to the community in this 2002-2003 season
by hosting a number of association meetings, wedding receptions and holiday parties
at extremely affordable rates. Local artists will continue to display their works
in the Margaret W. and Joseph L. Fisher Art Gallery, due to overwhelming popularity.
Since its dedication in October 2001, the Center has had hundreds of performers
grace the stage of the Mary Collier Baker Theater, including Bobby McFerrin, Nadja
Salerno-Sonnenberg, Washington Ballet and Kathy Harty Gray Dance Theatre, as well
as the Center's resident companies, the Arlington Symphony and Alexandria Symphony
Orchestra.
The Schlesinger Center features the 1,000-seat Mary Collier
Baker Theater, beautiful glass-enclosed Wachovia Forum, intimate Margaret W. and
Joseph L. Fisher Art Gallery and Internet-ready seminar rooms.
