          * Ethics and morality in law
          enforcement, defining police
          corruption.  * Use of deadly force
          and alternatives, shoot/don't shoot
          situations, proliferation of armed
          citizens.  * Bomb incidents,
          threats, search, recognition, and
          investigation.
          * An examination of the scope and
          impact of terrorism, domestic and
          international terrorist activities,
          hate groups.  * Crisis and hostage
          negotiations.  * New technology in
          the "War on Crime".  * Risk factor
          and hazards of police work, street
          survival.  Stress.  Police
          suicides.

ADJ 127  FIREARMS AND MARKSMANSHIP            3cr

          Course provides knowledge in the
          safe handling and operation of
          various firearms and the legal and
          moral responsibilities pertaining to
          them.  Class will visit a variety
          of shooting ranges and facilities
          (approx. 8 - 10 visits).
          Students will be responsible for
          paying range fees, ammunition
          purchase, and rental of firearms,
          plus ear and eye protection.
          Students completing course will
          receive certification for:  NRA
          Home Firearm Safety Course, NRA
          Personal Protection Course, and
          the Virginia Hunter Safety
          Course.  Combined classroom and
          laboratory - 5 hours per week.  For

          address the history of terrorism,
          recent terrorist campaigns and
          tactics, government counterterrorism
          initiatives, and problems for the
          U.S. criminal justice system and
          international law.
