Continuing Students

Thank you for choosing to continue your academic studies with NOVA. We look forward to your return.

Because you have registered for classes in the past, you are already familiar with the enrollment process. Simply follow the steps outlined below. If you need more information, see new student admission.

NOTE: If it has been more than three years since your last class at NOVA, you must reapply for admission.

STEP 1: Apply for Financial Aid (optional)
If you plan to apply for student financial aid, see the Financial Aid website.

STEP 2: Meet With Your Advisor
Contact your academic division to set up a meeting with your faculty advisor or counselor before you register to make sure you’re taking the right courses to achieve your academic goals. This is especially important if you plan to transfer to another college or university.

If you will be graduating at the end of the Summer, you must apply online for graduation by June 1, but earlier is better.

STEP 3: Make Sure Your Student ID Card (NOVACard) is Valid
NOVACards are valid for two years. Click here for more information.

STEP 4: Enroll in Classes

April 1: Registration for Summers begins for all students. To register for classes, use NOVAConnect.

STEP 5: Pay Your Tuition
You will NOT be billed for tuition. Click here for tuition payment information. If you enroll in classes by April 27, payment for all classes is due April 28 by 5:00 p.m. Beginning April 28, the payment deadline for any classes in which you enroll is 5:00 p.m. the next business day. Business days are Monday through Saturday. The College may cancel your enrollment if classes are not paid by you or a third party (including financial aid) by the deadline.

You are financially responsible for all classes for which you register. If you decide not to take a class, you must drop it through NOVAConnect or visit a campus Student Services Center to drop it officially by the stated deadline; otherwise, you will be charged for that class and may receive a failing grade.

If you wish to pay your tuition in installments, you must enroll in NOVA’s Tuition Payment Plan before your tuition due date, or by 5 p.m. the day after you register.

STEP 6: Print Your Schedule
Print a copy of your enrollment schedule every time you make changes.

STEP 7: Buy Your Books
Take a printout of your class schedule to the bookstore on the campus where the course is taught (ELI available at Alexandria), or buy your books online. You can also rent textbooks for less than 50% of the cost of purchasing a new textbook, either in the bookstore or from the store’s website.

If you have received a financial aid award large enough to cover tuition, fees, and books, see Using Approved Financial Aid to Buy or Rent Textbooks.

STEP 8: Buy Your Parking Permit
(not required at Arlington, Manassas Innovation Park, Reston, or off-campus locations)
Beginning May 13, permits can be purchased online and your permit will be mailed to you. Temporary 21-day passes can be printed from the website for immediate use. Look for campus signage to find out when parking enforcement begins.

STEP 9: Activate Your Free Student Email Account
If your free NOVA email account is not active, activate it before the start of classes. Click here for instructions on using your account.
