Schedule of classes -- Summer 2008

HYBRID CLASSES

More and more courses are being offered in a “hybrid” format, blending face-to-face teaching and online learning. Depending on the subject, the amount of Web-based instruction is more than 50%, with the remainder taking place in a traditional classroom setting. Most hybrid courses use "Blackboard"— you can log on to get your Blackboard account at http://tac.nvcc.edu/blackboard/. A reliable Internet connection is necessary. If you do not have your own computer, you can use one of NOVA’s on-campus computers.

Hybrid courses are NOT "condensed" courses. The online portion of a hybrid course requires the same number of “contact hours” as face-to-face class time.

Hybrid courses can be challenging. To be successful, you should be comfortable using computers and the Internet. You also need excellent time management skills and self-motivation to stay current with the class calendar. You need to read assignments and directions carefully, and keep up with class reading.

Hybrid courses listed in the print Schedule are marked with the symbol "hybrid course symbol" in the print Schedule of Classes. If you need further information, check the online course listing or contact the instructor or the division listed.
