FINANCIAL AID
NVCC has a student financial aid program to assist you with your educational expenses. This program is sponsored by the federal and state governments and the College. Scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study opportunities are available from a variety of programs.

To apply, contact the Financial Aid Information Service/Counseling Services on any campus or the College Financial Aid Office. Online application may be made from www.nvcc.edu/finance/. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and selection of a major in an eligible degree or certificate program are necessary to determine eligibility. FAFSA on the Web is available at http://www.nvcc.edu/finance/ and from NovaConnect Web at www.nvcc.edu/novaconnect/. You must also meet other federal and state eligibility criteria. To ensure faster processing, you should write in the College School Code: NVCC 003727. While most programs require enrollment for at least 6 semester credits, some funds are available to students enrolled for fewer than 6 semester credits.

The NVCC Student Financial Aid Services brochure provides a comprehensive description of the programs and application procedures for student aid. A copy may be obtained on each campus or the College Financial Aid Office. You are encouraged to apply as early as possible. If you need financial aid to make payment, please allow at least four weeks to review your application. Completed applications received by March 1, 2006 will receive priority consideration for all financial aid funds for the 2006-2007 academic year. Financial aid applications received after the March 1, 2006 priority-filing date will continue to be considered during the school year. Applicant materials may be mailed to NVCC, College Financial Aid Office, Forbes Office Center, Annandale, VA 22003-3796.

PLEASE NOTE: Financial aid funding for Summer 2006 comes from the 2005-2006 academic year. If you also wish to receive aid for Fall 2006, you will need to reapply for financial aid for 2006-2007.

The NOVA Tuition Assistance Grant (NOVA TAG) is available for the Summer 2006 session. To qualify you need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), demonstrate financial need, and enroll in at least 6 semester credits. Awards will be made on the basis of need and application date. For more information, visit our web page at www.nvcc.edu/finance.

If you fail to attend a classroom-based course and/or complete an activity in a distance education course, your financial aid award will be recalculated. If you received more funds than can be justified based on your attendance in the course, you will be required to repay the overpayment. This may occur at any point during the semester/term if the College Financial Aid Office becomes aware of a situation affecting your enrollment status. You will not be eligible to re-enroll until the debt has been repaid.

VETERANS BENEFITS
If you are applying for or are receiving educational benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs, you must contact a campus veterans advisor each semester to complete the necessary forms to establish and maintain your eligibility for benefits. Any changes must also be reported promptly to the veterans advisor. See the College Catalog or the College Web site at www.nvcc.edu/finance/vaWeb for further information.
