GENERAL
If you have a high school diploma or the equivalent, or are at least 18 years old, and are able to benefit from enrollment, you are eligible for admission to NVCC. You must complete an Application for Admission, Form 125-30, and submit it to any campus Admissions and Records Office. You can apply online. For information, go to the College Web site at http://www.nvcc.edu/novaconnect. It is to your advantage to complete and submit your application early. You will be unable to register until this form has been processed and you have been admitted to the College.

If you are claiming entitlement to in-state tuition rates, you must also complete the Application for Virginia In-State Tuition Rates section of Form 125-30 prior to registration and payment of tuition. When you apply for in-state tuition, you should be prepared to present documentation to support your claim. Eligibility for in-state tuition rates will be determined on review of this completed form online or at any campus prior to registration for classes.

To be eligible for in-state tuition rates, you must be continuously domiciled in Virginia for at least one year immediately preceding the first official day of classes for the semester. If an error is discovered in the original domicile decision, the College reserves the right to bill you for tuition due. Non-U.S. citizens on temporary visas, in restricted classifications, or undocumented are not eligible to establish Virginia domicile and eligibility for in-state tuition. Please refer to the College Catalog or contact a campus Admissions and Records Office for further domicile information.

Changes that may occur later in your residence, tax payment status, auto registration, etc., must be reported to a campus Admissions and Records Office. Failure to report changes that could affect your domicile and eligibility for in-state tuition could result in the College’s billing you for tuition due and/or taking disciplinary action against you.

International Students. This College is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant students. If you are an international student applicant requiring an I-20 form for a student visa, and/or your native language is not English, you should see the College Catalog (also located on the College Web site at http://www.nvcc.edu/curcatalog/admin/admissn.htm) for admission requirements.

Restricted Programs. If you plan to apply to any of the Allied Health, Nursing, or the Veterinary Technology programs, you must meet the special admission requirements outlined in the “Instructional Programs” section of the College Catalog. Also, in this schedule, see the “Off-Campus Class Locations and Campus-Specific Information” section for details about the Nursing and Allied Health Programs at the Medical Education Center and the Veterinary Technology Program at Loudoun. Note: If you apply using the online application, you will be placed into General Studies until you meet the special admission requirements for your program.

English Language Requirement
In order to register for most courses, students first admitted for the fall semester 2002 and thereafter are required to achieve a satisfactory score on the college English placement test. Regardless of course selection, all students will be required to take the English placement test prior to registering for the 16th credit.

ASSESSMENT AND PLACEMENT TESTING
Basic skills assessment and placement testing are intended to assist you in selecting courses and designing an academic program in which you will most likely be successful. THESE TESTS ARE NOT ADMISSIONS TESTS. However, you are required to demonstrate a specified level of English proficiency in order to enroll in most college credit courses.

Prior to testing, you must have submitted an Application for Admission to the College. A photo identification is required when you come to the Testing Center to take the tests.

For information about testing or testing accommodations, contact the Counseling or Testing Center at any campus.

Basic Skills Assessment. Assessment of your strengths and weaknesses in reading, writing, and mathematics will help you determine the appropriate courses to select. This assessment is accomplished through a group of basic skills assessment tests administered through the Testing Center at each campus.

If you are a degree-seeking student, you are encouraged to take basic skills tests in reading, writing, and mathematics before you register for classes.

If you have not taken the basic skills tests and have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of less than 2.00 after completion of 9 semester hours at NVCC, or if you are transferring to NVCC with a cumulative GPA of less than 2.00 (regardless of the number of hours completed) you must take the basic skills test in reading and writing. A counselor will determine if it is appropriate for you to take basic skills tests in mathematics as well. For more details about GPA, see “Academic Information,” in the Administrative Information section of the College Catalog. Students entering NVCC in the fall 2002 semester or later, regardless of their GPA, must take the English placement test prior to registering for the 16th credit.

Course Placement Testing. Most courses require that you obtain a minimum score on one or more placement tests before you may enroll in those courses. If your score on the required placement test(s) does not meet the standard, you must complete prescribed courses. The course(s) required will be determined by your score. These requirements apply to all campuses and ELI, unless specifically waived by the responsible division dean. See a counselor to review test scores.

Students who first entered NVCC in fall 2002 and thereafter must take the English placement tests prior to registering for college credit courses unless the course is exempted, you have a degree, or you have previously taken ENG 111/equivalent. The following is a list of courses that are exempt:
