NUR 108 (6 CR.)
NURSING PRINCIPLES AND CONCEPTS I
Prerequisite is NUR 105. Teaches principles of nursing,
health and wellness concepts, and the nursing process. Develops
nursing skills to meet the multidimensional needs of individuals.
Includes math computational skills and basic computer instruction
related to the dELIvery of nursing care. Provides supervised learning
experiences in college nursing laboratories and/or cooperating agencies.
Lecture 4 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Clinical 4 hours. Total 10
hours per week.
NUR 109 (6 CR.)
NURSING PRINCIPLES AND CONCEPTS II
Prerequisites are NUR 108, NUR 119, PSY 201, and
MDL 108 or NAS 161. Teaches nursing care of individuals and/or families
experiencing alterations in health. Continues development of nursing
skills to meet multidimensional needs. Includes math computational
skills and basic computer instruction related to the dELIvery of
nursing care. Provides supervised learning experiences in college
nursing laboratories and/or cooperating agencies. Lecture 3 hours.
Laboratory 2 hours. Clinical 7 hours. Total 12 hours per week.
NUR 115 (3 CR.)
LPN TRANSITION
Introduces the role of the registered nurse through
concepts and skill development in the discipline of professional
nursing. This course serves as a bridge course for licensed practical
nurses and is based upon individualized articulation agreements,
mobility exams, or other assessment criteria as they relate to local
programs and service areas. Includes math computational skills and
basic computer instruction related to the dELIvery of nursing care.
Lecture 3 hours per week.
NUR 116 (1 CR.)
SELECTED NURSING CONCEPTS
Introduces selected basic skills and concepts in
the discipline of nursing, and incorporates selected basic skills
and concepts into care to meet the changing standards of nursing
practice. Intended as a transition/refresher course for LPN, transfer,
and returning students. Lecture 1 hour per week.
NUR 135 (2 CR.)
DRUG DOSAGE CALCULATIONS
Teaches apothecary, metric, household conversion;
reading of drug orders and labels. Provides a practical approach
to learning to calculate and prepare medications and solutions.
Includes calculating intravenous flow rates and pediatric dosages.
Lecture 2 hours per week.
NUR 140 (2 CR.)
INTRODUCTION TO SURGICAL CARE
Introduces the study of the surgical process including
aspects of the operating room environment. Highlights preparing
the patient for surgery including transporting, positioning, and
special preparation procedures. Presents physical, psychological,
and spiritual needs of the patient including ethical and legal rights
of the patient. Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 4 hours
per week.
NUR 141 (3 CR.)
FUNDAMENTALS OF SURGICAL CARE I
Introduces principles of aseptic technique, sterilization,
disinfection, and antisepsis including environmental safety and
control, CDC, and OSHA requirements. Presents packaging, storing,
and dispensing surgical supplies. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3
hours. Total 5 hours per week.
NUR 142 (3 CR.)
FUNDAMENTALS OF SURGICAL CARE II
Prerequisite is NUR 141. Introduces principles of
wound healing including types, stages, and complications; preparation,
care and types of surgical supplies, packing, dressings, catheters,
drains, tubes, and equipment; and classifications of instruments,
sutures, and needles. Describes responsibilities related to the
scrub and circulating roles. Provides students practical experience
in the operating room. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total
5 hours per week.
NUR 150 (3 CR.)
COMMUNITY-BASED NURSING IN A MULTICULTURAL ENVIRONMENT
May be taken with NUR 108 or NUR 109. Incorporates
culture, family and the community as a broad focus of health promotion
and disease prevention. Includes interventions directed at the total
population or at individuals, families and groups in a multicultural
society. Lecture 3 hours per week.
NUR 205 (6 CR.)
INTRODUCTION TO SECOND LEVEL NURSING
Prerequisites are ENG 111, HLT 141, NAS 150 or NAS
162, NUR 109, NUR 162, and PSY 202. Teaches principles and concepts
of nursing care for individuals, families, and/or groups in the
community and hospital setting. Focuses on health team membership
and various nursing care dELIvery systems. Includes math computational
skills and basic computer instruction related to the dELIvery of
nursing care. Provides supervised learning experiences in college
nursing laboratories and/or cooperating agencies. Lecture 3 hours.
Laboratory 9 hours. Total 12 hours per week.
NUR 209 (4 CR.)
SURGICAL PROCEDURES I
Prerequisite is NUR 142. Introduces the surgical
specialties of general; gastroenterology; gynecology; ophthalmology;
ear, nose and throat; dental; oral and maxillofacial; plastic and
reconstructive; pediatrics; oncology; neurology; orthopedics; cardiac;
thoracic; vascular; transplant; and trauma in a laboratory and clinical
experience. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 6 hours. Total 8 hours per
week.
NUR 210 (4 CR.)
SURGICAL PROCEDURES II
Prerequisite is NUR 209. Introduces the surgical
specialties of general; gastroenterology; gynecology; ophthalmology;
ear, nose and throat; dental; oral and maxillofacial; plastic and
reconstructive; pediatrics; oncology; neurology; orthopedics; cardiac;
thoracic; vascular; transplant; and trauma in a laboratory and clinical
experience. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 6 hours. Total 8 hours per

SECOND LEVEL NURSING II-III
Prerequisites are HLT 250 and NUR 205. Emphasizes
nursing care of individuals, families, and/or groups in various
stages of development who are experiencing alterations related to
their biopsychosocial needs. Uses all components of the nursing
process with increasing degrees of skill. Includes math computational
skills and basic computer instruction related to the dELIvery of
nursing care. Provides supervised learning experiences in college
nursing laboratories and/or cooperating agencies. Lecture 3 hours.
Laboratory 1 hour. Clinical 14 hours. Total 18 hours per week.
NUR 254 (1 CR.)
NURSING DIMENSIONS
Explores the role of the professional nurse. Emphasizes
nursing organizations, legal and ethical implications, and addresses
trends in management and organizational skills. Explores group dynamics,
relationships, conflicts, and leadership styles. Lecture 1 hour
per week.
NUR 255 (2-3 CR.)
NURSING ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT
Addresses management and organizational skills as
they relate to nursing. Emphasizes group dynamics, resolution of
conflicts, and leadership styles. Lecture 2-3 hours per week.
