Credit for prior learning is a way for you to use the valuable, college-level learning you gained through your work and life experiences to earn college credit. NOVA offers several ways for you to demonstrate this learning, such as credit for evaluated training programs, credit by exam, credit for military training, and credit by portfolio challenge. You may choose to pursue one or several of these credit for prior learning options to earn credits toward your NOVA degree or certificate program.
NOVA also recognizes several credit for prior learning options available to high school students (AP, IB, Cambridge A Level, Abitur, SAT Subject exams).

Each four-year school has its own policies on the acceptance of transfer credit earned through prior learning assessment. For example, some universities may offer their students credit for prior learning, but do not recognize similar credit articulated from another school. If you intend to transfer to another institution, it is best to check with the institutional and program representatives regarding their credit for prior learning policies.
