Student Orientation Advising & Registration Sessions (SOAR)

"I wish I had MORE INFORMATION about college BEFORE I started classes!"

SOAR will give you the ATTENTION that you deserve before you register for classes! What you do prior to beginning your first year of college will have a major impact on your whole college experience.

If you have applied to NOVA and have taken your placement exams, sign up for a SOAR session where a team of faculty and staff will:

Help you understand your placement test results and what courses you can take in English and Mathematics
Show you how to use the Academic Catalog and to learn how to manage your course scheduling every semester
Help you choose courses for your first semester in college
Show you how to navigate through the Class Schedule and NOVAConnect to choose your class sections
Provide you with the opportunity to register for your courses
Show you how to access your financial aid status and discuss tuition payment deadlines
Direct you to important resources at the campus for college success

Sign Up

Click on the campus of your choice below to sign up for your SOAR session. Space is limited. Completing the Sign Up Form reserves your seat in the session of your choice. Please Note: You must register at least 48 hours prior to your preferred SOAR session time.

Alexandria

	1.	After you register for your SOAR session, be sure to print your confirmation page and bring it with you to the SOAR session on your scheduled date.
	2.	Please Note: If you are unable to attend your scheduled session, contact the Student Services Center at 703.845.6301 to reschedule. Please call between 11:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m., Monday – Thursday or on Friday between 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
	3.	After attending SOAR, be sure to sign up to attend the second part called New Student Orientation (NSO). At NSO you will meet fellow students, and learn more about keys to college success, transfer steps, financing your education and the First Year Experience (FYE) Program. NSO also includes a program specially tailored to parents. Make reservations for NSO now!

Annandale

	1.	After you register for your SOAR session, be sure to print your confirmation page and bring it with you to the SOAR session on your scheduled date.
	2.	Please Note: If you are unable to attend your scheduled session, please contact the Counseling Center Front Desk at 703.323.3203 to reschedule.
	3.	After attending SOAR, be sure to sign up to attend the second part called New Student Orientation (NSO). At NSO you will meet fellow students, and learn more about keys to college success, transfer steps, financing your education and the First Year Experience (FYE) Program. NSO also includes a program specially tailored to parents. Make reservations for NSO now!

Loudoun

	1.	After you register for your SOAR session, be sure to print your confirmation page and bring it with you to the SOAR session on your scheduled date.

Manassas

Medical

Students interested in Nursing or Allied Health Programs at the Medical Education Campus (MEC) should view an online information session prior to attending a session on campus.

Woodbridge

	1.	After you register for your SOAR session, be sure to print your confirmation page and bring it with you to the SOAR session on your scheduled date.
	2.	Please Note: If you are unable to attend your scheduled SOAR session, please contact the Student Services Center front desk at 703.878.5760 or WONSO@nvcc.edu to reschedule.
	3.	After attending SOAR, be sure to sign up to attend the second part called New Student Orientation (NSO). Online

	1.	After you register and complete your online SOAR session, be sure to print your certificate.
	2.	After completing online SOAR, be sure to sign up to attend the second part called New Student Orientation (NSO). At NSO you will meet fellow students, and learn more about keys to college success, transfer steps, financing your education and the First Year Experience (FYE) Program. NSO also includes a program specially tailored to parents. Make reservations for NSO now!
