NORTHERN VIRGINIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Audiovisual Communications Technology Program
AV TECH ONLINE
Introduction
The audiovisual (AV) industry’s first college technical training program is now available to students at Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC). This newly developed Career Studies Certificate is available beginning Fall semester 2002. Brought to students via the Internet, the courses provide students a convenient learning platform that allows them the opportunity to learn according to the schedule and location they choose. Students include incumbent workers already in the industry as well as new people seeking training to enter the industry.
The Audiovisual Communications Technology Program - AV Tech Online has risen out of the need to educate the current and future workforce of the AV industry. There is a labor shortage in high tech industries and it is estimated that the United States AV communications workforce will grow by 20,000 to 30,000 new high-wage, high-skill technical jobs each year for the next five years.
The Educational Communications Foundation, Inc.® and
the International Communications Industries Association, Inc.®
has joined Coastline Community College, Dallas County Community College
District, Metropolitan Community Colleges, Miami-Dade Community College,
Monroe Community College, Northern Virginia Community College and Portland
Community College to organize the AV TECH ONLINE Program. The US Department
of Education is partially funding the development of this project through
the Learning Anywhere, Anytime Program.
