Camp Med is a unique opportunity for middle school- age students to experience firsthand a day in the life of allied health and nursing professionals. Presented by Virginia Hospital Center and Northern Virginia Community College this week-long day camp provides exciting, hands-on activities intended to introduce the field of health care to seventh and eighth graders. Campers have an opportunity to shadow health care professionals at Virginia Hospital Center. Learning that health care is provided not just by doctors and nurses, students have the opportunity to explore a wide array of allied health care professions such as radiology and medical lab technology. Students also participate in a first responder “CSI” adventure where students participate in various crime and accident scenarios. Students learn that it takes a team of committed individuals, which include emergency medical technicians, nurses, and physical therapists, to provide complete health care. The week is completed by their attending a Cardio-Pulmonary-Resuscitation (CPR) class at the Medical Education Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. Contact Mary Ellen Gannon, RN, at Virginia Hospital Center for more details. (703)-558-5964.
