Contestants must be enrolled in at least one NOVA course during the Spring Semester of 2017 and in good academic standing. This includes dual enrolled students. However, winners from previous years are not allowed to compete again.
All contestants must submit an Audition Application Form by the audition deadline. The Release Form must be signed at the time of auditions. Auditions will be held at each campus during October 31-November 8, 2016. See the dates and times below.

Contestants must perform for no longer than two minutes. All contestants will be videotaped.
Contestants for NOVA Idol/NOVA Variety must be prepared for honest and professional evaluations. Emotional reactions are inappropriate at this level of competition. If you cannot handle pointers about your weaknesses, the NOVA Idol Executive Committee urges you to reconsider your participation in the contest.
During November 2016, the Executive Committee will review recordings from the auditions for NOVA Idol/NOVA Variety. After all of the videos have been reviewed, semi-finalists will be notified and their names will be posted on the website.

If you advance, update your application form by completing the Application for Semi-Finalists by the November 27, 2016 deadline.
All semi-finalists who are using music will send their music by email to the NOVA Idol coordinator, firstname.lastname@example.org, by November 27, 2016. The coach and the NOVA Idol committee reserve the right to disqualify a song and or a finalist. A sound system and microphone will be provided. The music will be used when you perform at the LO Campus, on Thursday, December 1, 2016. The public will be invited to attend the performances of the semi-finalists, but cannot vote. Official judges will select the NOVA Idol finalists.
Note: The finalists MUST be enrolled in at least one course (1-5 credits) at NOVA during the Spring 2017 semester and be in good academic standing. All finalists will be verified for course enrollment. If a contestant is selected as a finalist, he/she will sing the SAME song as in the semi-finals.

Information for Vocal Coaching and Rehearsals
January 9 thru March 30, 2017
Singers must rehearse with the designated coach. They should bring a recorder to capture the instructions and suggestions offered by the coach. All Performances must be family friendly. Mandatory vocal coaching sessions are once a week for 12 weeks (beginning Jan. 9), each session will last 45 minutes. There will be two mandatory rehearsals on Sunday.

Information for Final Rehearsal, and Performance for Finalists – March 30 and March 31 (Alexandria Campus, Schlesinger Center)

Final mandatory rehearsal: Finalists will rehearse the entire day on the stage at the Schlesinger Center at the Alexandria Campus with a live band. Be on time for the rehearsal. There will be no rescheduling. Finalists should bring a recorder to capture this rehearsal. Rehearsal will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end around 6:00 p.m.

Finalists must wear semi-formal attire for the competition scheduled from 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Finalists will be accompanied by the band on March 31. The votes of both audience and judges will be tallied to choose the winners.
The Winners’ Responsibility
NOVA Idol winners are expected to perform at NOVA and other public events for one year after winning the contest. In addition, the winners will judge the semi-finals in 2017.
