Contestants must be enrolled in at least one NOVA course during the Spring Semester of 2018 and in good academic standing including dual enrollment students. However, winners from previous years are not allowed to compete again.
All contestants must submit an online Audition Application Form by the audition date. You will have to sign a Release Form at the audition. Auditions will be held at each NOVA Campus from Thursday, November 2 until Tuesday, November 14, 2017.
Contestants' performance cannot exceed two minutes. All contestants will be videotaped.
Contestants for NOVA Idol/NOVA Variety must be prepared for honest and professional feedback. Emotional reactions are inappropriate at this level of competition. If you cannot handle stress such as pointers about your weaknesses, the NOVA Idol Executive Committee urges you to reconsider your participation in the contest.
During November 2017, the Executive Committee will review recordings from the auditions for NOVA Idol/NOVA Variety. After all the videos have been reviewed, semi-finalists will be notified and their names will be posted on the website. Notifications will be made by November 22, 2017.

All semi-finalists who are using music must send their music by email to the NOVA Idol Coordinator, email@example.com, by December 1, 2017. The coach and the NOVA Idol committee reserve the right to disqualify a song and/or a finalist. A sound system and microphone will be provided. The music will be used when you perform at the AL Campus, on Friday, December 8, 2017. The public will be invited to attend the performance of the semi-finalists, but will not be invited to vote. Judges will select NOVA Idol finalists.
Note: Finalists must be enrolled in at least one course (1-5 credits) at NOVA during the Spring 2018 Semester and be in good academic standing. All finalists will be verified for course enrollment.

Information for Rehearsals
January 15 through April 5, 2018, singers must rehearse with the designated coach. You should bring a recorder to capture the instructions and suggestions offered by the coach. Mandatory vocal coaching sessions are once a week for 12 weeks (starting on January 15), each session will last 45 minutes. Variety acts are expected to rehearse regularly on their own. There will be at least two mandatory Sunday rehearsals PLUS a full dress rehearsal FOR ALL SINGERS/PERFORMERS. All Performances must be family friendly.

Final mandatory rehearsal -- finalists will rehearse the ENTIRE day on the stage at the Ernst Center with a live band. BE ON TIME for the rehearsal. THERE WILL BE NO RESCHEDULING. Finalists should bring a recorder to capture this rehearsal. Rehearsal will begin at 8:00 am and end around 6:00 pm.

Singers must wear semi-formal attire for the competition scheduled from 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Variety Act attire will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Singing finalists will be accompanied by the band on Friday, April 20, 2018. Variety acts must provide their own props and backup music, as needed. The votes of both audience and judges will be tallied to choose the winners.
The winners must perform at NOVA and other public events for one year after the contest. Also, the winners will judge the semi-finals for NOVA Idol 2019.
