Wait List Functionality
Wait lists will be activated for Spring 2010 in a pilot program for high-demand courses only. NOT ALL CLASSES WILL HAVE A WAIT LIST
VCCS will ‘turn on’ the WL function for these high-demand classes initially. Class sections added after the initial set up will need to have the WL function added manually by the divisions.
NOVAConnect includes wait list functionality in the Schedule of Classes. When students attempt to enroll through Self-Service in a class that is full, they will be given the opportunity to be entered on a wait list. If a spot in the class becomes available, students on the wait list would gain entrance to the class on a first-come-first-served basis, in the order that they are placed on the wait list.
A batch process will run every evening once enrollment begins that will move students from the WL to enrollment status. This batch process will run AFTER Enrollment Cancellation. The students can check their schedule the next morning and find out if they are enrolled in the class, and will have until 5:00 p.m. the next business day to pay for the class.
Students are not notified automatically that they are moved from the WL to the class and must monitor their schedule every morning.
Students who are in WL status for a class are not charged tuition for a WL class.
Classes for which a student is wait listed are NOT counted for the purpose of Financial Aid or for full-time status.
If a student has a class conflict, has reached their 18 credit maximum, is already enrolled in another section of the class or is repeating the class, he or she will not be moved from the WL to the class.
If a student on a WL is not eligible to be enrolled for reasons stated above, the system will enroll the next eligible student. The ineligible student will remain on the WL.
Class sections that require DEPARTMENT CONSENT will not use the WL functionality.
Students cannot get on a WL if they do not have the prerequisite, if they have a Service Indicator (hold), or if a WL is not available.
Students cannot get on a WL if the WL is full (wait list cap has been reached).
The last day for a student to get on a Wait List is two business days before the regular 16 week semester begins. For the non-regular sessions (1st Eight Week, 2nd Eight Week, Dynamic sessions), a student must also be on the wait list two business days before the regular 16 week semester begins. The last day students will be moved from the Wait List to enrolled status will be one day before the 16 week semester begins(not the c lass start date). Thereafter the Wait List will be deleted.
Students are told their position on the WL and see their position through Self-Service during the enrollment period.
Students may see that a class is OPEN, but if there is a WL, the student will be placed on the WL.
Students can remove themselves from the WL through Self-Service (same process as drop).
Only a Dean may authorize an override to enroll a student in a class with a WL.

What the Instructor Will See
The instructor can view enrolled and wait listed students on the Class Roster through Self-Service on the Faculty Center
1. The default roster will only show fully enrolled students:
2. The instructor will have to change the enrollment status to ALL or WAITING to see all other types of enrollments:
What the Student Will See (And Do)
1. If the class section is full and a WL is available, the student will see the WL icon as the class status:
2. The student will click ‘on’ Wait List if class is full. The class is then placed in the shopping cart (note the status).
3. The student proceeds to steps 2 and 3. The following page is displayed: (Note that the page indicates Successful enrolled, but in the WL. It also tells the student what position on the WL.):
4. If the student checks their class schedule, this is what they see:
