NOVA encourages new and returning students to register now and connect with their dreams

Registration for spring classes at Northern Virginia Community College began Nov. 16. Approaching one month into registration, NOVA is urging new and returning students to pull up that Spring 2016 Schedule of Classes and enroll as soon as possible. Or, if students have questions about what they need to do to stay on track for graduation, they should schedule a meeting with an advisor in their campus’ Student Services office before the holiday break or as soon as possible after they return.

“NOVA provides a solid pathway for students from community college to a four-year institution and into the career field of their choice,” said Dr. George Gabriel, Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness and Student Success. “NOVA is a regional asset in higher education to build a strong workforce in Northern Virginia.”

NOVA faculty and staff expend a great deal of time and energy encouraging prospective and returning students to take full advantage of the unprecedented access to the American dream that is available right in their own backyards. NOVA is the second largest community college in the nation with more than 78,000 students and six campuses throughout the Northern Virginia region, and just moments from the nation’s capital giving students an edge on finding relevant and meaningful employment after graduation.

NOVA offers a state-of-the-art education that is second to none with nearly 60 individual programs of study and many specializations and certificates within those so students can tailor their education to their goals and talents. In addition to critical training in eleven healthcare fields to fill nearly 18,000 healthcare vacancies expected in the region in the next five years, NOVA offers degrees in IT and in CyberSecurity to meet regional demands in these fields, as well as many others.

For those who have dreamed of attending a particular four-year college but haven’t had the funds or the grade history necessary, they should explore NOVA’s Guaranteed Admission Agreements program. Through GAA, students are guaranteed admission to more than 40 area colleges and universities when they meet the agreement requirements between NOVA and that university. American, Catholic, George Mason, George Washington, James Madison, Liberty, Longwood, Marymount, Virginia Tech and UVA all participate, just to name a few. Students save thousands in tuition costs by taking advantage of NOVA’s very affordable tuition, and they have the opportunity to buttress their academic record and gain a seat in a wide variety of prestigious universities through this cutting-edge program.

“There are dozens of life-changing opportunities available through an education at NOVA, but the first step is to find out what they are and to claim them,” Gabriel said. “Students should not wait! Keeping in mind that they must be registered before 11:59 p.m. on the night before the semester begins, they should register right away.”
