On Thursday, January 13, 2011, the NOVA Chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) initiated 30 new members at the Induction Convocation held in the CE Forum on the Annandale Campus. The chapter’s student officers (President Navid David Attayan, Vice President Braxton Telleria, Secretary-Treasurer Elysia Howe, Social Chair Esther Namubiru and Vice-President of Community Services Fadela Belhaj Soulami) worked diligently to reschedule the event that was originally planned for October, but cancelled due to a power outage. Family members and friends of the inductees enjoyed the ceremony which celebrated the accomplishments of the high achieving students. Dr. David Conroy, Sr. (AN), mathematics professor, gave an inspirational keynote speech about integrity which NSCS considers the foundation of the society’s pillars of (1) scholarship, (2) leadership and (3) service. The chapter presented the Distinguished Member Award to Accounting Assistant Professor and Chapter Advisor Jill Mitchell (AN).
NSCS is the honor society for high achieving first- and second-year college students who are in the top 20 percent of their class with a 3.6 or better grade point average.
