The Women’s Center at NOVA-Alexandria receives donation
July 31, 2013
The Women’s Center at Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria Campus has received a $17,000 donation from the Fairfax County’s Office of Public Private Partnerships.
The donation will allow the Center to provide students with financial help such as tuition assistance, books and emergency funds. These barriers can become significant challenges for students working toward completing their educational goals.
Additionally, the partnership will help the Center provide better access to community services and resources for struggling students, including those who face domestic, dating and sexual violence.
"I'm so proud to have the Women's Center be a partner with Fairfax County to make sure that students not only receive crucial assistance, but also get easier access to the county's resources,” said Carolyn Cass Lorent, Ph.D., the Center’s director and an associate professor of psychology at the Alexandria Campus.
“Because of this effort, so many students will receive the financial assistance they need to reach their educational goals,” she said.
The Women’s Center opened its doors in 2008. Its programs and services are provided by volunteer faculty, staff and student leaders.
