Northern Virginia Community College receives grant from Dominion Foundation for environmental efforts

August 22, 2013

Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) was recently awarded $30,000 from Dominion Resources and the Dominion Foundation to support projects in energy and sustainability.

As part of the grant, NOVA will develop sustainable practice zones containing rain gardens, a cistern, and the use of solar energy on the Annandale Campus. Educational signage will educate the public on positive impacts these practices have on the Accotink Creek Watershed in Fairfax, Va.

NOVA was one of 39 colleges that received a grant from Dominion’s Higher Education Partnership. Colleges were awarded up to $50,000 each to underwrite projects in energy, environmental studies, engineering and workforce development.

The Dominion Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dominion Resources, is dedicated to improving the physical, social and economic well-being of the communities served by Dominion companies. Dominion and the Foundation annually award more than $20 million to causes that protect the environment, promote education and help meet basic human needs.
