The Massage Therapy Program at Northern Virginia Community College’s Woodbridge Campus is offering three continuing education workshops on Aug. 13 and 14. The courses have been approved through the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
On Saturday, Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon, Jodi Scholes will teach “The Business of Bodywork.” Participants will learn to set realistic business goals, market effectively to find clients, and manage time and energy to enjoy the rewards of the job.
On Saturday, Aug. 13 from 1 p.m. Carol Sinwell to 4 p.m., Suzanne Yates will present “Introduction to Pregnancy Massage” with an overview of techniques in side-lying position and all fours work. Yates is the author of three books on pregnancy massage.
On Sunday, Aug. 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Cathy Lavalee will discuss how to maintain proper roles and boundaries during “Standard V of Standards and Practices Ethic Review.” Many ethics classes focus on the client’s boundaries but this course will teach how the massage therapist’s boundaries are crucial to success.
The half-day workshops are $109 each and the full-day course is $150. Participants will receive certificates of completion and continuing education credits. For registration information, call 703-878-5755.
