Free band concert July 30 at NOVA-Manassas

July 13, 2011

City of Fairfax band

The City of Fairfax Band will present a free concert on Saturday, July 30 at the Mary Louise Jackson Amphitheater at Northern Virginia Community College, 6901 Sudley Road, Manassas. The venue will open at 7 p.m. and the performance will begin at 7:30 p.m., with free parking next to the amphitheater. In case of inclement weather, the show will be rescheduled for July 31.

Nationally recognized for excellence, the City of Fairfax Band has been entertaining audiences with a broad repertoire since 1969. Audiences of all ages will enjoy a pops-style concert of light classical, Broadway, jazz, film and patriotic selections.

Under the leadership of Robert Pouliot, the band presents the best in symphonic music. Many of the band’s members are professional musicians and music educators. The ensemble maintains a standard of excellence in musicianship and interpretation, and provides audiences with a musical experience that rivals the nation’s top bands. The band was awarded the John Philip Sousa Foundation’s Sudler Silver Scroll Award for excellence among community bands.

The band has performed at a variety of cultural centers ranging from the Wolf Trap Farm Park for the Performing Arts to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and from the Inner Harbor at Baltimore to the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival in Orkney Springs, Va.

The performance is part of the Summer Evenings Under the Stars series, made possible with funding from the NVCC Educational Foundation. Series sponsors include Country Chevrolet and NOVEC.
