NOVA joins nationwide effort to honor fallen service members
October 11, 2011
The Alexandria Campus of Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) has joined a nationwide grassroots effort to honor American servicemen and servicewomen who paid the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan during the past decade.
On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, NOVA will join more than 100 colleges and universities across the nation in a Remembrance Day National Roll Call. The event will honor more than 6,200 casualties of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, now called Operation New Dawn, by reading all of the names.
Reading of names will begin at 10 a.m. and will stop briefly at 2 p.m. for a simultaneous nationwide minute of silence. The event will take place at NOVA’s Alexandria Campus, 3001 North Beauregard St. For information about NOVA’s Roll Call events contact Patricia Gordon at 703-845-6218.
The Remembrance Day National Roll Call is sponsored by the Veterans Knowledge Community of NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. NASPA is a 12,000-member association for the advancement, health, and sustainability of student affairs professionals. The Veterans Knowledge Community mission is to advocate for best practices to help student veterans transition to college and succeed.
