President Obama to Visit NOVA
March 27, 2010
On Tuesday, March 30, President Barack Obama will visit NOVA’s Alexandria Campus to sign a historic bill that will make higher education more affordable and help more Americans earn a college degree.
In addition to lowering health care costs for American families and small businesses, the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 raises the maximum Pell Grant, makes loan payments more affordable for students with unmanageable debt and increases investments in community colleges, Historically Black Colleges, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and other Minority Serving Institutions.
Accompanying President Obama will be Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and other cabinet members.
This is President Obama’s second visit to NOVA, and the College is honored to welcome him again. The President will be introduced by Dr. Jill Biden, Associate Professor of English at the Alexandria Campus.
Based on direction from the White House, this event is by invitation only. However, a video of the bill signing will be posted on NOVA’s website, www.nvcc.edu.
