NOVA Welcomes New Chief of Police
July 12, 2010
Chief Daniel Dusseau is an experienced police officer with more than 21 years of law enforcement experience. He recently retired from the Prince George’s County Police Department, where he accumulated diverse experience having worked or commanded almost every aspect in one of the largest police agencies in the United States.
His accomplishments include the implementation of videotaped interrogations, the standing up of the centralization of intelligence and crime analysis and the creation of a compliance unit to oversee integrity of the entire police department, where he was credited with the reduction of complaints. His most visible command occurred when he was the commander of the Criminal Investigations Division, where he provided news and insight for local news and CNN, and was involved in the investigation of a high profile serial rapist, known as the “craigslist rapist,” that made national news. He has received a governor’s citation, city proclamations, a public sector employee of the year award and numerous commendations. As an active member of the community, Dusseau serves on the Board of Directors for Leadership Prince George’s Inc. and is the chairman for Peace Officer Ministries, Inc.
In March 2009, Dusseau served as a presenter at the Conference on Crimes Against Women in Dallas, Texas. During July 2009, he served as the sole law enforcement subject matter expert during National Level Exercise 2009, where he spent a week in the studio with anchor Forrest Sawyer, providing commentary and insight into the nation’s reaction to a simulated terrorist event.
Dusseau comes from a family of law enforcement that includes his father, who retired after 40 years as a police officer, and a twin brother, who retired after serving 23 years as an officer. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Business, is married and has a son.
