Attend a Free Facebook Seminar at NOVA-Manassas

November 2, 2010

Learn how to use Facebook to stay in touch with family, friends, former classmates and fellow veterans during a free seminar Nov. 20 at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College.

Members of the Alpha Iota Zeta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will demonstrate how to create a Facebook account, post information and upload photographs.

Rebecca Hayes, co-advisor for the campus chapter, explained why the students are offering this seminar.

“For one of our service projects, our members decided to help people in the community connect with loved ones through Facebook,” she said. “We know many people are interested in using Facebook, but might be intimated by the Internet or aren’t sure where to start. Retirees are especially encouraged to participate. We’re looking forward to sharing how easy it can be to use this communication method.”

Two hands-on workshops are scheduled – one at 10 a.m. and another at noon. To register, contact Hayes at 703-257-6695 or rhayes@nvcc.edu.

Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in higher education with 1,250 chapters on college campuses in every state, as well as Canada, Germany, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the United Arab Emirates and U.S. territorial possessions. More than two million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 100,000 students inducted annually.
