American Women: Voices of the Past & Present - An exhibition of paintings by Rosemary Gallick
February 24, 2010
Portraits of prominent American women painted by Rosemary Gallick will be on display at Northern Virginia Community College’s Woodbridge Campus from March 1 to April 1 to commemorate Women’s History Month. The 4th floor gallery is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. Admission is free.
“American Women: Voices of the Past & Present” includes a wide range of women, from first ladies Jacqueline Kennedy and Michelle Obama to such divas of the silver screen as Marilyn Monroe and Mae West. The political world is represented by Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin, Nancy Pelosi and Sonia Sotomayor. Part of the exhibition focuses on entertainers from the music industry such as Janis Joplin, Madonna, Dolly Parton, Tina Turner and more.
The paintings are done in acrylic with touches of mixed media for special effects. The largest painting, “Women Who Rock,” features 13 individually rendered headshots of female musicians in a bold, vibrant palette offset by a black background. “The emotionally charged lines and dazzling colors embrace the exuberance of the individual performer,” Gallick said.
Gallick’s artwork has been exhibited throughout the United States. She lives in Centreville and teaches art history at Northern Virginia Community College.
The Woodbridge Campus is located at 15200 Neabsco Mills Road, just off Interstate 95 at exit 156. To learn more, contact Gallick at firstname.lastname@example.org or 703-878-5797.
