Achieving the Dream at Loudoun
February 20, 2008
At the Loudoun Convocation on January 10, the Loudoun Achieving the Dream (AtD) Campus Team members, co-chair Kirk A. Nooks, dean of students services, and co-chair Stacy Rice, English faculty, along with College AtD Director Jane Serbousek, engaged the faculty and staff with an introduction and overview of the AtD initiative.
Serbousek provided the Loudoun faculty and staff with an introduction and overview, and Rice followed with a slide-show presentation, noting the key components that the Campus and College are focusing, the first of which being persistence and retention. Then, Nooks discussed what steps the Loudoun Campus is taking to ensure the success of this program.
After the opening segment, faculty and staff were invited to join in small group discussions focusing on specific questions about retention and persistence. Each group, consisting of five to eight people, had two AtD Campus team members, one to facilitate the discussion and one to record the information gathered and discussed. Following these engaging discussions, those who participated in the discussions reconvened in the theatre to discuss some of the ideas that were raised, facilitated by Loudoun AtD team member Laura Young, developmental English faculty.
