High school students exploring careers at Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College

During the week of June 21, rising 10th graders from Battlefield, Manassas Park and Osbourn high schools will participate in the Career Learning and Exploration Achieves Rewards (CLEAR) Program at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. CLEAR is a free summer day camp designed to help high school students investigate careers in a fun setting. This year’s program will focus on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Participants will explore STEM-related career opportunities, build confidence and self-esteem, and identify individual educational and career goals.

Join us for these sessions:

Monday, June 21
9:45 to 10:15 a.m.: Become a successful college student (with Dean of Students Mark Kidd)
10:15 to 10:30 a.m.: Take college classes in high school (information on dual enrollment)
10:45 to 11:15 a.m.: Dreams are goals (with Asante Clarke, counselor and motivational speaker)
10:45 to 11:15 a.m.: Explore careers with Virginia Education Wizard

Tuesday, June 22
9:30 to 10:30 a.m.: Lockheed Martin presentation
9:30 to 10:30 a.m.: NOVA’s Biotechnology Program presentation
10:35 to 11:35 a.m.: Above sessions are repeated; students change rooms

Friday, June 25
9:10 to 9:40 a.m.: Real World explanation (Students will be challenged to a “real world” day. They will pick a career, purchase a house, buy a car and pay taxes. At the end of the exercise, participants find out if they would have succeeded in the real world.)
9:45 a.m. to noon: Real World simulation
