Media Opportunity: Naturalization Ceremony at NOVA-Manassas

October 3, 2013 8:03 AM

What
The Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College will be the setting for a naturalization ceremony conducted by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. USCIS will welcome 40 candidates for naturalization from 25 countries who will take the Oath of Allegiance. Washington District Office Director Sarah Taylor and Washington Field Office Section Chief Claudia Young will represent the USCIS.

Students in Professor Linda Simmon’s “U.S. Government II” class were instrumental in bringing the ceremony to the Manassas Campus as a way to create a sense of civic engagement between the community and the campus. Several NOVA employees will participate in the ceremony, including longtime NOVA employee Kathy Russell who will sing the national anthem and Computer Science Professor Michael Carrington, a naturalized citizen, who will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
