The Medical Education Campus (MEC) of Northern Virginia Community College will open its doors to more than 400 preschool children for the 2017 Give Kids A Smile© event on Friday, Feb. 10, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The annual program provides free dental services to children in underserved populations. Virginia Governor Terry R. McAuliffe is expected to be in attendance for this year’s event.
The children, generally part of the Arlington County Head Start Program and referred by the Northern Virginia Dental Society, will be seen by dental hygiene students enrolled in the program at the MEC and local dentists, hygienists and dental assistants who volunteer through the NVDS. Children will receive evaluations, prophylaxis (teeth polishing) and fluoride treatments. Patients will be referred if they need extensive dental treatment.
