Library Classroom Policy
Scheduling:
- The Library reserves the right to schedule library related activities in the classroom.
- Library instruction takes precedence over other instructional uses.
- Classes which have had an instructional session with a librarian may be scheduled for follow up sessions in the classroom during the following weeks. When not all of the workstations are needed for the class, please allow other students to use the remaining PC’s.
- Scheduling should allow for a transition between classes so that librarians have access to the area at least 15 minutes before a scheduled class they are teaching (and 15 minutes afterward).
Classroom Conduct:
- Students and faculty are expected to adhere to college rules regarding classroom /lab behavior.
- It is the instructor's responsibility to make sure that computers and other equipment are properly restored to the desktop or (late evening) shut down after use.
- It is the instructor'’s responsibility to monitor the class noise level so as not to bother others who are trying to work in the library.
- Cell phones and pagers are to be turned off while in the library.
Class Instruction
Group instruction can be scheduled for entire classes of students and for interested of faculty and staff. NVCC faculty can call 703-822-6684 to reserve desired dates and times. GMU faculty should contact Sarah Sheehan. VCU faculty should contact Lynne Turman.
Every effort is made to tailor instruction to the specific research needs of the class. Instruction can be scheduled in the classroom area of the library followed by hands on use of reserved library PC's; or if the class normally meets in a computer lab, hands on instruction may be provided in the lab.
