Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT’s) perform essential laboratory testing that is critical to the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. In fact, modern medicine could not be practiced without the tests performed by these laboratory professionals. Did you know that laboratory tests make up 70% of the verifiable reportable data in a patients’ medical record? MLT’s perform tests on blood and body fluids in the areas of hematology, chemistry, blood banking, microbiology, serology, and urinalysis using: microscopes; chemicals; computers; and sophisticated automated equipment. In a medical laboratory, a team of highly skilled pathologists, technologists, technicians, and phlebotomists works together to determine the presence, extent or absence of disease, and help evaluate effectiveness of treatment. The degree program in Medical Laboratory Technology is a full-time, five semester sequential curriculum leading to an Associate of Applied Science Degree and eligibility to sit for National Certification Examinations.
The NVCC MLT AAS degree program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. Click here to visit their website (NAACLS)

Phlebotomists (PBT’s) work directly with patients. The laboratory depends on the phlebotomy technician to collect quality samples from the patient to produce quality laboratory results. To do this, the phlebotomy technician must create an atmosphere of trust and confidence with patients while drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe, and reliable manner.
