  Assessment and Placement Testing 

Basic skills assessment and placement testing in English, reading and mathematics are intended to assist you in selecting courses in which you will most likely be successful. THESE TESTS ARE NOT ADMISSIONS TESTS. Prior to testing, you must have submitted an Application for Admission to the College. A picture identification is required when you come to the Testing Center (MH 112) to take the tests. For information about Testing Center Hours call 703-257-6645 and select option 1 or option 2.

 Career Interest Inventories

Two career interest inventories are available to students at the Manassas Campus, CHOICES CT, a computer self-guided interest inventory, and the Strong Interest Inventory . Counselors can assist the student in choosing which instrument best suits their needs.



 Myers-Briggs Type Indicator   (MBTI) 

Students interested in learning more about their preferences in taking in information, the way they like to make decisions, and the kind of lifestyle they adopt may wish to use this tool.  Counselors are available to provide additional information about the MBTI and its uses. Call 703-257-6610 for an appointment.


College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

 CLEP is a program of credit by examination which offers students the opportunity to earn college credit for knowledge acquired outside the conventional college classroom. NOVA grants credit for a specified level of performance on general examinations in five liberal arts areas and subject examination in specific subject areas.
The CLEP is only offered at the Alexandria Campus. For more information, contact the Alexandria Campus Workforce Development & Continuing Education at 703-845-6240.


DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST)

The DSST Program is a nationally recognized testing program that gives you the opportunity to receive college credit for learning acquired outside the traditional college classroom. NVCC awards specific course credit for acceptable scores, as recommended by the American Council on Education. Also, college course credit may be granted for tests administered by the United States Armed Forces Institutes (USAFI) prior to June 1, l974.
