Career counseling is available to students
and community members who need assistance in making decisions
related to their career choice. Resources and services
are available to individuals to combine self-knowledge with
career and job search strategies.
The Career Center is located in Room 110 of
Howsmon Hall. The Career Center is open Monday through Thursday
8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Friday until 5 p.m.

Various print, audiovisual, and computer
sources are available to provide information on colleges, labor
market data, career options, career assessment, self-assessment,
job search skills, employment opportunities, and local and state
employers.
Choices Planner
This computerized career guidance program provides information
on careers and college majors as well as colleges/universities.
It includes an Interest Profile, Skills Checklist, Work Importance
Locator. Please contact the Counseling Office for site ID # and password. It is recommended that once you complete any of
the assessments and/or the aptitude survey that you print your
results and schedule an appointment to meet with a career counselor.
There is a minimal charge for printing.
Strong Interest Inventory and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
These assessments can assist you in the career and life planning process by helping you identify your general areas of interest, specific activities and occupations that you might want to explore further, and how understanding your personality type can help you make more informed career decisions. The instructions for these assessments can be purchased at the bookstore ($12 for the Strong and $14 for the MBTI). In order to complete these assessments, you will need to obtain permission from the Career Counselor at the Manassas Campus. Please call (703) 257-6610 to schedule an appoinment.

Occupational Outlook
Handbook
This resource provides the following information about occupations:
nature of work, working conditions, general employment information,
training, other qualifications, advancement, job outlook, earnings,
related occupations, and sources of additional information.
America's Career InfoNet
This site contains occupational and economic information including
a general outllook of the U.S. job market, wages, trends and
state profiles.
The Career Center has several up-to-date videos
and print resources on all the aspects of the job search including:
interviewing, networking, and resume writing.
Northern Virginia Community College has partnered with MonsterTRAK to bring you NOVATRAK! Through NOVATRAK students, alumni, and members of the community will be able to search for jobs and internships, post resumes, obtain useful information for obtaining a job, and view in-depth profiles on employers.
Local employers list 500-600 announcements
a year with the office. These announcements are organized as a hard copy resource in the Career Center.
Career Counselors are available for assistance on
job search activities, including resume and cover letter critiquing.
