Before the Test · Start preparing for your exams
the first day of class. Read your syllabus carefully to find
out when your exams will be, how many there will be, and how
much they are weighed into your grade.
· Approach test taking like any other important task.
Define what you need to do to reach your goals and the steps
you need to take to get the job done.
· Plan reviews as part of your regularly weekly study
schedule. You may want to create a study group for these reviews
to reinforce your learning.
· Summarize the most important material and use flash
cards for those hard to remember details.
· Recite from your lecture and text notes. Consider recording
the information and listening to it while doing chores.
· Try to anticipate essay questions and write outlines
and practice essays.
During the Test · Arrive for the test refreshed
and well rested.
· Make sure to read the directions carefully.
· Manage your time wisely. Quickly look over the entire
test and divide it into sections. Try to save time at the end
of the exam for review.
· Work on the "easiest" parts first. If your
strength is essay questions, answer those first to get the maximum
points. Pace yourself to allow time for the more difficult parts.
· Do not let a lapse of memory throw you into a panic.
If you have a mind block on a question, leave it for awhile
and return to it later.
· When answering essay questions, try to make an outline
before you begin writing.
