Math Placement Test

The COMPASS computerized math test is the standard placement test for all math classes. The test is divided into five subsections: pre-algebra, algebra, college algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. When taking the math test, the program will move students imperceptibly from pre-algebra to another section based on their performance. This is a particular advantage over previous math tests because students do not have to identify their math level in order to take the right test. Students may use only the online calculator. The math placement scores are valid for 1 year. Students may retest after 3 months.

Students wishing to enroll in MTH 001 and MTH 002 are not required to take the math placement tests. However to reduce the chances of students underestimating their skills and enrolling in a mathematics course that is below their skill level, students should be encouraged to take math placement.
