SkillCheck The Computer Competency Test About the NVCC Computer Competency Test
Who needs to take the test? Students should check with their counselor to see if the Computer Competency Test is a requirement for graduation for their program. Does the test take the place of a computer usage course? No. Since the test measures only minimum levels of competency, it is not an ABLE exam and cannot be used in the place of a required course to fulfill program requirements. Where can I take the test? The exam is administered Monday through Friday at any of the five NVCC Testing Centers. Please call individual Testing Centers or check web sites for hours of operation. Although the exam is not timed, it must be started at least two hours before closing. Valid photo identification is required. Is the test computerized? Yes. SkillCheck is a hands-on test, covering Windows, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and the Internet (including e-mail). What is on the test? The test includes both objective questions and simulated exercises, which are not evenly distributed. Students will be asked to perform tasks that may include, but are not limited to the following:
What is the passing score? 43 out of 84 questions (or 51%) must be answered correctly to pass. How often may I take the test? The test may be re-taken every 30 days. How long is the score valid? Scores are valid for 7 years. How much does it cost to take the test? There is no fee .
