What do I need to borrow materials?

The NOVACARD is required in order to borrow library materials or use reserve items. New cards are issued in room 311 of Howsman Hall.

Community patron ID cards are issued in the library upon presentation of a current driver's license showing a local address or proof of current registration at George Mason University.

Can items be renewed?

Only books may be renewed. Renewals may be made at the check-out desk with a library card or by phoning 703-257-6640. Renewals will not be made if a patron has any overdue items, or if the item is on hold for someone else.

How can I get a book from another campus library?

Students, staff, and faculty may obtain circulating materials from other NVCC campuses through intercampus loan, which generally takes about 2-3 days. Ask for assistance in placing an intercampus loan request at either the Circulating or Information Desks. Reserve or reference items are not available for intercampus loan.

What about borrowing from other libraries?

Public libraries permit borrowing with proof of current local address. George Mason libraries permit borrowing with a current NOVACARD.

Interlibrary loan requests for items that NVCC libraries do not own are handled by Izabela Antonova.

What do I do if I lose a book? Have a hold placed on my record?

Borrowers who lose library materials are required to pay the replacement cost of the lost materials. Materials that are lost or overdue for more than 30 days will result in an administrative hold being placed on the patron's record. Students and community patrons may not check out materials, obtain grades or transcripts, or register for classes until the materials are returned or replacement costs are paid.
