Police Survey

The Campus Police & Public Safety Department is responsible for the safety and security of College students, visitors, staff, buildings, and grounds, as well as for enforcement of traffic and parking regulations, including state traffic laws.

Under the Virginia Code, campus police officers are fully sworn and exercise the same powers and duties conferred by law upon police officers of cities, town, or counties on property owned and controlled by the College under guidelines established by the College. They have the authority to investigate crimes, make arrests, quell disturbances, direct persons off College property, oversee emergency evacuations, and otherwise exercise their assigned responsibilities.

Safety

In addition to the traditional mission of any police agency, the police of Northern Virginia Community College are committed to providing a safe environment for you. We cannot do this without your help! You may view the College's Safety Report for more information.

Emergency Call Boxes & Emergency Phones

Emergency Call Boxes located throughout the parking lots and grounds and Emergency phones are located throughout the buildings.  They must be used only for legitimate emergencies. To reach the Campus Police, push the call button and state your emergency; then, release the button to listen. The call box automatically identifies your location.  You will need to state your location when using the Emergency phones.

Lost and Found

The Campus Police handle all items that are found on campus. If you have lost an item on campus (books, purse, keys, etc.) please check in MH Room 309. This is where you can turn in any items you find on campus.

Key Requests

Keys are the responsibility of the Campus Police & Public Safety Department on the 3rd floor of Howsmon Hall. Key control is a major part of the College's security measures. Keeping this level of security requires some inconvenience and, in some cases, a cost. Keys are issued only to those full time employees who need to access certain areas on a regular basis. Keys are not issued to part time employees or students. Keys are not to be loaned or given to anyone without the employee's first obtaining permission from the College Police. Missing keys must be reported immediately to the College Police. Broken keys will be replaced. No duplication of keys is authorized. A lost key or a key not retrieved from an employee who is quitting may require the replacement of all the locks associated with that particular kind of key. This cost will be assessed to the person or department responsible for the key.

A KEY ISSUE AUTHORIZATION form must be completed before a key is issued. The requestor must have his/her supervisor and department head sign and date the form. The request is then reviewed by the Business Manager and the Police Supervisor to determine the actual need for issuing the key. Forms are available from the Campus Police office or are able to be printed from the NVCC web page ("Forms"). Please returned signed forms to the Campus Police Office.
