GOALS of PAINTING I:
Learning through experience and experiment how to handle various materials and techniques, as appropriate, for the
beginning painter.

GRADES:  Will be based on applied effort and creative attempt in the projects produced. Attendance is important for
critical feedback;  but it is expected that other than class hours will be needed to complete your projects.

More than three absences may put your final letter grade in jeopardy or result in your being withdrawn from the class.  If you must withdraw from the class, do so by the 10th week of classes or an automatic "F" will result.

There will be a final critique during the last class meeting of the semester.  Semester projects will be evaluated at that time.

Any student with special educational requirements, please see me during the first week of class.

SCHEDULE:
     3 Weeks - Painting Exercises
3 Weeks - Painting from sketches or photograph
     5 Weeks - Semester Concentration

SEMESTER PROJECT:       Copy of an "Old Master"

Take a color reproduction of a painting that excites you (for whatever reason) and do a scaled up or down copy of the painting.  Your representation should be as close to the original painting/reproduction as possible.  I would like to see the reproduction with you finished work, if possible.

MATERIALS:  A separate list will be provided.
Oil OR Acrylic paints can be used.

CANVASES:  3  12X16 Canvas Boards
3  16X20 (or other) Pre-Stretched-1 for Semester Project
