GOALS of DRAWING I:  The introduction to and the comprehension of, through experiment and projects, some of the basic techniques used in traditional image-mark making / Drawing.  The  student is introduced to concepts such as proportion, space, perspective, tone and composition as applied to still life, landscape and the figure through the use of       black and white drawing media.

GRADES:   Will be based on In-Class and Lab projects. Individual class projects will not be graded but lab projects will be evaluated weekly.  In-class projects not completed during Monday's class time must be completed during lab hours or at home.  Lab projects are due for critique the week after they are assigned and will be reviewed by the class during our break time.  Late lab work will receive lower grade consideration.  All drawing projects should achieve a completed state that represents the student's best efforts and technical attempts to solve the visual problem of that assignment.  Completed projects are for presentation and review in the student's end of the semester portfolio.  The final semester grade will be based on the presentation quality and evaluation of this completed portfolio.  The      Semester Project will be viewed as a Final Exam.  The basic evaluation percentage is:  50% In-Class Projects, 40% Lab Projects and 10% Semester Project - BUT - The student's individual effort is the most important grading consideration - NOT previous drawing ability.

ATTENDANCE is very important for classroom lectures critiques, and participation; therefore, the student is expected to be on time for the beginning of the class   and remain for the entire class period. Please do not schedule doctor’s appointments, etc, during required class time.  More than 3 absences may put your final letter grade in jeopardy.

If for some reason you should miss an in-class or lab   project, an equivalent project is to be done and included in your final portfolio. At the end of the semester, you should have at least 1 Drawing per in-class project and lab project. The semester project  will be due the day of final critique.

If you must drop the course, it is your responsibility to do so before the end of the 10th week of class (Oct. 27) or an automatic "F" will result.  Also, it is the student's responsibility to be certain that they are correctly registered for this course.  Students who are registered for this course but do not attend any       classes during the first 3 weeks of class or miss 3 weeks of class in succession will be automatically dropped from the class.
