is designed to provide the related instruction
component for carpentry apprentices. It is approved by the Virginia
Apprenticeship Council. This work-based learning approach will develop
skilled workers to meet the shortage of skilled carpenters. While
enrollment in this program is open to any persons who meet the College's
admission requirements, Carpentry Apprenticeship participants must
also be employed according to the Standards of Apprenticeship, and
must maintain satisfactory progress in this related instruction while
maintaining continuous employment in carpentry.
is designed to prepare students
for residential framing, a specialized subcraft of carpentry, through
classroom instruction and hands-on framing in home construction. This
experience-based learning approach will develop workers to meet the
shortage of skilled framers. Students will progress through the building
courses in a sequence of eight weeks for each course for a total of
two semesters (fall and spring). It is also structured to allow dual
enrollment opportunities for high school students. For admission,
students must complete an application and an interview.
