We offer a surprising range of
courses—9 in all!
- Psychology of Human Sexuality (PSY165). Examines sexual issues from a
psychological and behavioral perspective with an emphasis on sexual
dysfunction, sex therapy, and AIDS. No prerequisites.
- Introduction to Psychology I (PSY 201) . Covers child development & life span development,
motivation & emotion, consciousness and sleep, the brain and nervous
system, as well as a little about research methods and statistics. No prerequisites.
- Introduction to Psychology II (PSY 202). Covers mental disorders and their treatment, group
processes and social psychology, personality theory, and learning, memory,
and language development. Prerequisite: PSY 201.
- Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences (PSY 211). Introduces the principles and processes of various
research procedures for applying the scientific method to understand
behavior. Includes preparation for conducting, understanding, and
interpreting laboratory and field studies; documenting principles through
research; and applying critical assessment to generic research. No
prerequisites.
- Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences (PSY 213).Introduces the principles and processes of statistics
within behavioral research but does not stress mathematical derivation.
Focuses on selection of appropriate statistics, their application and
correct decisions of interpretation within a behavioral research
experience. No prerequisites.
- Abnormal Psychology (PSY 215). Covers the broad range of mental
disorders, including anxiety disorders, depression, schizophrenia, and the
personality disorders. Discusses different theories of cause and
treatment, including the behavioral, psychodynamic, and organic
approaches. Prerequisite: PSY 202.
- Social Psychology (PSY 216). Examines individuals in social
contexts, their social roles, group processes, and intergroup
relations. Includes topics such as small group behavior, social behavior,
social cognition, conformity, attitudes, and motivation. Prerequisite: PSY
202.
- Lifespan Human Development I (PSY 231) . Investigates human behavior through the life cycle. Describes
physical, cognitive, and psychosocial aspects of human development from
conception through adolescence. No prerequisites.
- Lifespan Human Development II (PSY 232). Examines the life span from adolescence through late
adulthood, including teen problems, adult development, the midlife
transition and discussions of aging and age-related dementias (e.g.,
Alzheimer’s). No prerequisites.
